10 GHz Beacon Project cont.

Now add an amplifier to get the signal back to a usable level. This is a 12 GHz amplifier that requires

-20 VDC and +10 VDC and has about +21dB of gain. It cuts off just below my desired secondary LO

of 9936.0 MHz so all of the undesired frequencies below 9936.0 MHz are attenuated. All of the harmonics

above my desired frequency are still present through 12GHz. There is a 2dB pad on the input.

First stage mixer and amplifier.

First stage amplifier output. +7dBm

Now I will add the second stage mixer. The secondary IF source is my FT-897 at 432.3 MHz attenuated to +13dBm.

I lose another 3dB in cable and connections so about +10dBm makes it to the mixer. The output of the mixer feeds

a filter stage that has been tuned to 10368 MHz with a bandwidth of 35 MHz.  This eliminates all of the unwanted

harmonics above and below 10368 MHz.

Secondary mixer and filter stage.

Secondary mixer and filter output. 10368.300 MHz out @ -8dBm.
